Alongside Dr. Ulrike Boehmer, we created this literature review on what research has been conducted regarding cancer risk among sexual and gender minorities. Research has shown that gender and sexual minorities have higher rates of cancer, and that cancer-related behaviors such as tobacco and alcohol use are more likely in this population. In the clinical setting, evidence shows that there are issues in access to health care, including lower screening rates and lack of relevant training for health care providers. Our suggested areas for future research include surveillance data to confirm cancer disparities for sexual and gender minorities.
